It's been a while since my last post on Fedora 13. So, one year later, let's see if I can finally install & use it on this MacBookPro5,5. Installation went OK, I only had to rerun rEFIt once more in MacOS X, so that Fedora's GRUB is loaded correctly. After installation, quite a few things came up and after 2 days of fiddling, it's still far from being excellent:

The BCM4322 wifi card needs a proprietary firmware blob and at least Linux 2.6.38 (or better yet 2.6.39) to work. See this post for some details. Of course, that's not Fedora's fault at all. But it sucks nonetheless, big time.
Bluetooth does not work. Maybe #695588 gets some attention.
The nVidia MCP79 audio chip inside this Mac does not work. Or, more precisely: the speakers won't make a sound, when you plug in headphones, it works.
The Synaptics Touchpad still does not support two finger scrolling.
gvfsd-smb is still crashing sometimes, leaving Samba shares temporarily unavailable.
F15 now comes with Gnome3, but gnome-shell cannot handle gnome-applets any more.
abrt fails to fetch debuginfo files, so one has a hard time sending bug reports.
KVM is hardly usable for me. See #678555 / #452422 / #527736.

So, that and the usual 3rd party showstoppers (Flash and Java plugins, Picasa anyone?) make it really hard for me to use for serious business. Let's hope they'll iron out a few bugs before its final release.

Semi-interesting read about Gnome3 in VirtualBox installations. Favourite quote:

Half a year later, Fedora 15 Beta is out and Gnome3 still requires 3D support. Wow.
Upgrading through every version of windows - Beat this, $WINDOWMANAGER! :-)
Sound seems to work once the speakers are unmuted. Sound quality is not great, but it's better than nothing.
